Governance within Kaleidoscope MAT

Governing within a trust or school also provides an opportunity for personal development, building your skills and experience in areas such as project management, budgeting, and working as part of a leadership team. Governing boards meet regularly to look at the big picture and the school or trust’s long-term goals. Governors typically serve at schools that are maintained by the local authority or at the local level within a trust, whereas trustees serve on an academy trust board. See our Governance Structure for how governance within Kaleidoscope is managed.

Being a Trustee or Local Governor is a voluntary, unpaid role for people who have the time, energy and skills to make a real contribution to shaping the future of our Trust and schools. The board collectively use their skills, strengths and expertise from all walks of life to enrich the governance of Kaleidoscope.

Volunteering as a trustee or local governor is a valuable addition to both personal and professional life and is a challenging yet rewarding position.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Kaleidoscope Multi Academy Trust Board of Trustees is accountable in law for all decisions about its academies.  However, this does not mean that the Board makes all the decisions itself and as such, may choose to delegate to the CEO, Board Committees and Local Governing Bodies (LGB).

The decision to delegate a function is made by the full Board of Trustees and is recorded as such. Without formal delegation, the individual or committee has no power to act.

For all levels of governance, Kaleidoscope corporately commits to
The Seven Principles of Public Life (The Nolan Principles).

Foundation Support

Alongside the Diocese of Bath and Wells training and events programme, they provide a dedicated education team are on hand to offer support and guidance for school governors. In particular, they offer specialist support for the governance of church schools.

School governors are vital in our education system and good schools are dependent on good governance. School governors are the largest voluntary organisation in the country. Although this is a position of responsibility, it is also extremely rewarding as you directly affect outcomes for young people in your community.
