Lyn was born in Bristol and moved to Nailsea aged 11.
At aged 16 she attended College in Bristol, where she obtained a qualification as a Nursery Nurse. After working for some years in a variety of settings in St Paul's, Knowle West, Barrow Hospital and the private sector in this country and abroad, she married and had two children. Over the following years while her children were young, she ran Playgroups and Nurseries before taking up a role as an unqualified social work assistant. She quickly realised this was what she wanted to do so she obtained a place at University and earned a Degree in Social Work.
Throughout her career she focused on Child Protection mainly in Local Authority settings with a 2 year post with Bristol Women’s Aid. On returning to Local Authority social work she specialised in Domestic Abuse and Child Sexual abuse.
Lyn became a Senior Practitioner, then Assistant Manager before promotion to Team Manager, supervising a team of 12 social workers, 2 social work assistants and 2 admin staff.
Throughout her career Lyn has strongly believed that every child deserves to be safe and have the opportunity to experience the best health and education available to them.
Since leaving social work 12 years ago, Lyn worked at The Healthy Living Centre, where she ran a Lunch Club for older people, a food bank, and taught seated exercise. Although now recently retired from that role, she remains on the Board of Directors.
She also continues to run daily, teach seated exercise, works for an organisation that offers Counselling to men and Women who have left abusive relationships and spends time with her 5 grandchildren.
